Southampton and home

Sunday 4th December

I slept reasonably well and was woken by my alarm clock. It was a bit of a rush to get ready and leave my room by the set time of 8.30. In fact, I didn’t make it until closer to 8.40. After a last breakfast in the Lido, I sat at peace in the Winter Garden until it was time to leave the ship shortly before 10. I was supposed to sit in the dining room but I felt this place was more peaceful.

I collected my suitcase and went down to Departures. I had received a text message from David to say that he and Jonathan were almost there to collect me. I found Louis wandering around not knowing what he was doing. He knew a car was coming to take him to the airport but did not know when so he had been waiting and waiting. His USA phone was no help so I lent him mine. Unfortunately all he got was voicemail. David came in then so I left. I wonder if Louis made his flight on time!

Most of our drive home was good but there was a short patch of slow traffic because of an accident earlier in the day. That added about 15 minutes to our journey.

By the end of the day I had unpacked and done a couple of loads of washing. It doesn't take long until the cruise is just a memory of the past.
